Dog Board and Train
in Columbus, Ohio

Looking for the best dog board and train near me? Off Leash K9 Columbus offers comprehensive dog training and boarding in Columbus designed for busy owners who need reliable results.

Dogs are intelligent creatures, and given the right guidance, they can become well-behaved, calm, and independent companions. Many dog parents choose board and train programs to give their dog a solid foundation for long-term behavioral success.

“Our board and train programs are designed for people who don’t have the time or resources to properly train their dogs,” says Training Director Dylan Beck. “We’re teaching all of the same commands as our obedience lessons in these programs–the difference is the trainer is the one putting in the foundational work and then teaching the owner how to keep up with it afterwards.”

Whether your dog needs basic household manners or obedience in public environments, our Columbus dog boarding and training programs allow your dog to stay with one of our professional trainers and begin their journey to freedom.

Benefits of Our Board and Train Programs

What This Means for You:

1 Week Freedom Board and Train Program

Our 1 Week Freedom Board and Train Program’s main goal is to help dogs become obedient. For an entire week, your dog will stay with one of OLK9’s expert trainers. Your dog will undergo one-on-one immersive sessions, learning commands, proper manners, and other obedience lessons.

During this intensive week, your dog receives 2-4 hours of active training daily, seven days a week with no holidays off. Training focuses on establishing foundational commands in a controlled environment to build reliable household behaviors.

What You Get With Our 1 Week Program

Your dog will master essential household commands and develop the foundation for good behavior at home. This program establishes clear communication between you and your dog, making daily routines smoother and more enjoyable.

Our 1 week Columbus dog boarding and training focuses on:

“The 1 week program is focused more on around-the-house type manners, whereas the 2 week program includes both household manners and out-in-public manners.” This program is ideal for dogs who primarily need better behavior at home and aren’t dealing with reactivity, aggression, or anxiety issues.

What Our Clients Say About Our
Dog Training and Boarding in Columbus

This has been the most rewarding thing we could've done for our pup. I have contacted many board and train companies, Off Leash is hands down the best. From the start, it was clear that OLK9 and staff were invested in my pup's well-being. Kyle was our trainer and I cannot say enough amazing things about him!!! He sent daily updates, including texts, videos, and pics. My pup REALLY enjoyed her time with Kyle. Will my dog forget me? ABSOLUTELY NOT! My pup was sooooo excited to see me! Will board and train "break" my dog? NO! I got back the same lovable diva that I sent!!!!! She is still every bit as goofy and playful. The biggest difference is that she is MUCH more manageable. She actually listens to me because she respects me more as a leader. Thank you Kyle and Dylan!!!

Marty Ferguson was amazing. We sent our dog Fitz here for the 2 week board and train. Speaking as a dog owner who was on the fence about getting their dog trained.... I could not give OLK9 Columbus a better review. Everyone was friendly and welcoming through the process. Fitz can now enjoy his time off leash doing dog things. Fitz is a way more happy dog now that he gets to enjoy this time.

Get the Best Results: Follow Our Complete Training Process

While board and train delivers excellent results on its own, we see the most dramatic transformations when dogs follow our complete training progression. Dogs who start with our Puppy Consultation, progress through Marker Mastery, and then complete Board and Train consistently outperform dogs who skip the foundational steps.

As our Training Director Dylan explains, “All the dogs that have done that process have been absolutely phenomenal.” Dogs with proper foundations are calmer during training, learn faster, and owners find the process much easier because they already understand their dog better. Starting with proper foundations makes the board and train experience smoother and more effective for your dog.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Columbus Dog Boarding and Training

What age does my dog need to be for board and train?

Dogs must be at least 6 months old for both our 1 week and 2 week board and train programs. Not 6 months? Take advantage of our puppy consultation to give your dog a head start!

Will my dog remember me after training?

Absolutely! Dogs have excellent memories for their families. Training Director Dylan Beck notes, “The moment when the owner reunites with their dog again is very heartwarming. They never forget about the owner.”

How does the training transfer to me as the owner?

Our 2-3 hour handoff session at the end of the program teaches you exactly how to use the e-collar and maintain the training. We also provide free lifetime refresher sessions whenever needed–we’re here to support your dog’s long-term success!

Where does my dog stay during training?

Your dog stays at their trainer’s home. This creates a more natural, less stressful environment for learning. We have dedicated, climate-controlled kennel spaces for when dogs aren’t actively training during the day and at night.

Do I need obedience lessons before starting board and train?

Nope! Obedience lessons are designed to teach owners how to be the trainer, while our board and train programs are designed for people who simply don’t have the time or energy to properly train their dog.

We’re teaching all of the same commands in both programs–the difference is the trainer puts in the foundational work that you can continue at home with dog board and train in Columbus.

However, for those who are interested in starting with basic training before committing to a board and program, we also offer basic obedience training as well as puppy training.

What's the difference between the 1 week and 2 week programs?

The 1 week program focuses on basic household manners (come, sit, place), while the 2 week program includes everything from 1 week plus public manners like heel command and extensive distraction training. 1 week is more of a program for around-the-house type manners, whereas the 2 week is around-the-house manners plus out-in-public manners.

What does a typical training day look like?

Dogs receive 2-4 hours of active training daily, 7 days a week with no holidays off. In addition to obedience training, your dog will also take field trips around the Columbus area to parks, stores, and other distracting environments to help ensure reliable obedience and good behavior in the 2 week program.

Will my dog need the e-collar forever?

This depends on your individual dog, as every dog is different. If you’re dealing with a really high-drive dog, like an Australian Shepherd, you may want to have that equipment on, especially in distracting scenarios. The best way to get off equipment quickly is to be really consistent with it in the beginning!

Is there a wait list?

While we always look forward to helping as many dogs as we can, please contact us first before enrolling online because the wait list could reach as far back as 3 months. Contact us to see what our current wait times are and we’ll let you know your options!

What if my dog isn’t old enough for board and train in Columbus?

We offer a puppy consultation, which allows you to get started with the fundamentals until your dog is old enough for our board and train programs. Our puppy training is an excellent value (just $95!) and prevents future behavioral problems like anxiety and aggression. By starting with proper puppy training, you’re ensuring a calmer, more confident dog that’s easier to live with and ready for advanced training when they reach 6 months of age.

Are there dogs that don’t qualify for board and train?

While we work with dogs of all temperaments, some situations are better suited for other training programs. For example, dogs with potential bite risk or severe aggression issues typically do better with our obedience lessons or Aggression and Anxiety Program, where the owner remains involved throughout the process.

Dogs with extreme anxiety who struggle with kenneling and may stop eating are also not good candidates for board and train. We’ll discuss the best training approach for your specific dog during our phone consultation and can arrange a meet-and-greet if needed to determine the right program fit.
